I just started reading Rising Strong: How the Ability to Reset Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. Brene Brown’s books and TED talks have already rocked my socks, and I bought this one long before my accident, but I never got around to reading it. Looks like it’s time. Anyone else want to? Hamster book group..?

8/27/18: Sciatica Pain
I’m 8.5 mo PO and on day 8 of lower back & sciatic pain that probably resulted from overdoing it at my job as a trainer, and sitting for too many hours on a day trip. Was with my kids all day today, and as soon as I put them to bed, I sat and faced this overwhelming fear of, “What if I don’t get better? What if this pain doesn’t go away?” which looks like a lot of crying and breathing and nose blowing while trying not to wake the rest of the family. And gin. There was some gin involved. And an ice pack. And I’m still good looking, though not so much during the crying parts.

Den of Positivity, 8.5 mo PO:
I hate that this injury has woken up a number of impairments in my body that I’d obviously been adapting to and fine with, until I pulled my hamstrings out of the Jenga stack: rotator cuff…thoracic spine…lumbar spine…knees…
…I do like that I’m experiencing the most common pains/limitations my personal training clients are plagued by. Now I know how they feel. And I’m learning how to navigate & manage those pains. So thanks for that, Universe. I guess.
I also love Brian Friedman & Maddie Ziegler (in pink). So there’s that, too.

8/23/18: 8.5 Months P.O.
8.5 mo PO. I’ve never had sciatic pain before, but I think I’ve been having it since Monday. I spent the day sitting – 1.5 hours in the car + 2 hours up on the bow of a sailboat + 2 hours at a restaurant. Praying like heck that it’s an inflamed piriformis pressing on the nerve, and not scar tissue starting to entrap it.
I see my PT tomorrow. In the meantime I brought all my anxiety to my PT twin sister’s texting doorstep and she told me to release my piriformis with a tennis ball, stretch the piriformis, and do my nerve glides. She said I could have just irritated the nerve itself by sitting on it all day. I also could have thrown out my SI joint with all the sitting and climbing – that would put my piriformis into spasm. I’m not having symptoms down my thigh or calf, just lower back & bum.
Between my pre-surgery knee pain, shoulder problems from crutch use, and now piriformis pain, I’ve experienced the three most common pains/issues my personal training clients are plagued & limited by. So now I know how they feel. And I’m learning how to navigate & manage those injuries. So thanks for that, Universe. I guess. *Sigh*.

8/19/18: Mellow Mix
Popped this mellow one into the Walking Stamina Mix today. Good for PT exercises, too. Working hard, taking it easy. Not either/or… both/and.

Love when they get along…

Den of Positivity, Day 256 PO:
I love this. I love it hard. It’s as much fun to watch the faces in the audience as it is the dancers. It’s how I feel when someone adds a post in here about progress.
8/16/18: Gmorning, Gnight!
Oh yeah. The Den loves this.
