My gym is part of a franchise whose annual corporate meeting is tomorrow in Boston at a hotel. It’s a full day event from 8:30-5:00. I’ve been to the same event the past two years and know what to expect – a lot of sitting. My boss is happy I am going and supports my leaving early if I can’t make it through… I want to bring an ice pack with me but I don’t know how to keep it cold enough…think I should just buy a bag of ice from the hotel when I get there..?

2/8/18: Neoprene Sleeve Recommendations

I’m looking ahead to the end of this month when I’ll be 12 weeks PO. My rehab protocol mentions wearing a neoprene sleeve over my hamstrings during exercise & activity. Has anyone bought a particular brand or style they’ve liked?
2/7/18: I Put My Socks On
Den of Positivity, 3 mo PI, 2 mo PO:
I posted this on my own FB page a year ago today, likely over political tension in both the country & my extended family. It feels relevant today not only for my hamstring recovery & midlife unraveling, but because on Monday I put BOTH of my socks on without the sock helper. Might as well keep them on for a while.

2/6/18: “When Things Fall Apart, Consider the Possibility That…”

2/5/18: Back to Work!
9 weeks P.O. now,
and first day back at work:
2.5 hours
at the gym
where I train
& manage.
Healing to see friends,
be missed,
be hugged.
PT after,
home to crash.
Exhaustion
stealing
my
words.

2/2/18: Calf Squeeze
If they don’t send you home from surgery with an Intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) device like Dustin Aschenbeck had, there’s always *these* calf squeezes… Not sure they’ll prevent blood clots, though.
1/31/18: Walker Dance and Career Worries
Den of Positivity, 12 weeks PI, 8 weeks PO:
Rough night of worry over future work. Putting personal training on back burner and investigating ways to earn money with my writing. Lots of things on my body hurt today. I can’t muster much positivity, so I’ll let these gals do it for me. Hang in for the second song at 45 seconds.
1/29/18: First Hip Extension “Whatchu Talkin’ ‘Bout, Willis?”
At 8 Weeks P.O., the passive & active knee flexion I’ve been doing at PT (bending the knee to bring heel to bum) has been painful, but I’ve seen progress in my mobility & strength, and don’t get so sore afterwards anymore. I’m even able to do a few minutes – reeeeally slowly – on a bike. But when Melissa introduced standing hip extension this morning, my hamstrings basically said, “What you talkin bout, Willis?!” My brain said go, but the hams did not. I just stood there…wishing…my leg would move. I switched legs and did a few extensions with the good leg to notice what was firing where, before switching back and trying again. And then the leg moved. A little. But, woah, Nellie, there is some work to be done.
P.S. I’m not using the cable in that second picture, but I do put on pants for PT.

1/28/18: Out to Watch the Kids Play Basketball!

Two hours sitting & standing, and I did not die.
