5/16/19: To Kim

To Kim on our Anniversary * * * Love, I know you exist; your Earth surrounds my Soul. Steady ‘lighting branch, and daily learning lens - you show me my truth til I am undone. Try not to ache to pull me from words and thoughts and time - you saw me shining there and chose; your love notes sealed the deal. And I will not continue to tie my strings to you, no more a constant mooring than I, forever free. Forgive me for forgetting, as though I never knew, you always need a branch like me - you still need anchoring, too.

– Stanley Kunitz, from “The Testing-Tree”
